Curriculum Vitae

Bio

Olivia Fleming is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Sociology. While pursuing her Ph.D. at OSU, she has specialized in the study of social inequalities and environmental sociology, with an emphasis on environmental justice, social movements, and food studies. Her qualitative dissertation explores foraging in the state of Oklahoma. Through in-depth interviews, folks are asked about their experiences with food access and community, as well as their perceptions of the future of food and nature. She believes that critically examining food relationships and environmental perceptions will be beneficial in moving forward conversations concerning the role that power and policy play in local communities. She is particularly interested in how conflict and inequalities arise from varying priorities and translations of “nature.”
