Bio
Jean Van Delinder is Professor of Sociology and Associate Dean of the Graduate College at Oklahoma State University. Her primary area of academic interest is in the social psychology of protest. The long-standing focus of her work is in how resistance to oppression is structured by gender, race and ethnicity. Her book, Struggles before Brown: Early Civil Rights Protests and Their Significance Today examines the under-theorized oppression and protests in the Midwest just before and during the civil rights movement in the 1960s. Her most recent research is funded by the National Science Foundation and examines the strategies women and minorities use to manage academic careers in science and engineering.
