Research Interests: Environmental Sociology,
Environmental Justice, Social Movements, Social Justice, and Race,
Class, & Gender Inequality.
Tamara L. Mix (Ph. D., University of Tennessee,
2002) joined the OSU faculty as an assistant professor in fall 2005.
She specializes in environmental justice, race, class and gender
inequality, and social movements. Her research interests include
environmental justice in contaminated communities, environmental
inequality, and issues of regional resilience. She is currently involved
in several projects addressing environmental and social justice themes
including: regional resilience issues utilizing the case of Alaska’s
interior predator control program and a study of environmental illness
and impacted workers at the Oak Ridge Nuclear Reservation. Tammy
plans to continue her work on regional resilience and inequality,
focusing on issues pertinent to communities in Oklahoma. Tammy teaches
in the areas of environmental sociology, inequality, social movements
and qualitative methods. She is currently chair of the Society for
the Study of Social Problems Environment and Technology Division.
