Careers in environmental sociology focus on the critical relationship between society and the environment. Students who choose an emphasis in environmental sociology will be well prepared for a wide variety of careers in both public and private sector agencies with an environmental focus, including local and state departments of ecology, consulting firms, political organizations, community recycling programs and international non-governmental organizations.

In preparation for more advanced careers in environmental sociology involving graduate study, students obtain advanced understanding of social research methods and statistics. These skills, in addition to knowledge gained about the human, social, economic and natural dimensions of the environment enable careers in research, teaching, and consulting with academic, governmental, non-governmental, non-profit and for-profit organizations nationally and internationally. Students interested in graduate study in this area should inquire about Oklahoma State's nationally recognized prominence in the field of environmental sociology.
